My inspiration to create the garden art was to bring a permanent flourish to my backyard. I also decided that after my most recent, controversial project that I needed something peaceful and beautiful, and the flowers were the perfect fit.
With this project, there is a strong link between the flower and the female image. The Flower Girls have curvaceous bodies with flowers for heads and vines for arms. I wanted to have fun with them, making them whimsical, bright and colorful.
For my yard I wanted a large field of these flowers. I used a fifties motif and created a variety of styles and colors to get hundreds of pieces. I have been able to use these pieces for a large cascading pot of flowers, hair in another Flower Girl sculpture, as well as wall and garden art.
